Saint Henry II was a German king and Holy Roman Emperor. He was educated by St. Wolfgang of Regensburg and succeeded his father, Henry, Duke of Bavaria. In 1002, he became king and in 1014, received the imperial crown at the hands of Pope Benedict VIII, with humility, for the greater glory of God. His goal was to establish peace and foster reform of ecclesiastical and monastic life in Europe. It is said that he lived in perpetual chastity with is wife St. Cunegundes of Luxembourg. St. Henry’s life shows us that holiness is possible in a busy secular life.
