Saint Elijah or Elias is considered one of the greatest Old Testament prophets who lived in Israel during the reign of King Ahab. His life and mission are chronicled in the Book of Kings with many victories and miracles. He is considered the Father of the Carmelites and the order traces its origin to him. During his ministry, he went up to Mount Carmel in Palestine to live and pray. One day while speaking with his successor Elisha on the hills of Moab they were separated when Elijah was taken up to heaven in a fiery chariot. He later appeared with Moses at the Transfiguration of Jesus on Mount Tabor.
