Pope St. Pius X, born Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto, was the 257th pope of the Catholic Church, serving from 1903 to 1914. He was the first pope since Pope Pius V to be canonized. Pope Pius X is perhaps best remembered for his encouragement of the frequent reception of Holy Communion, especially for children. The second of 10 children in a poor Italian family, Joseph Sarto became Pius X at 68, one of the 20th century's greatest popes.
"Holy Communion is the shortest and fastest way to Heaven." - Pope Saint Pius X
