Saint Luigi Scrosoppi grew up in Udine, Italy, in a devout Catholic family and was ordained a priest at age 23 in 1827. He dedicated himself to the poor and needy and founded the Congregation of Sisters of Providence, emphasizing education, healthcare, and social support to disadvantaged individualsHe also founded an orphanage to provide shelter and education for children and encouraged young people to take part in sports. Because of his love of children, his extraordinary virtues of charity and patience, and his joyful spirit, he is named the patron of Soccer. In 1883, he was forced to give up all activity because of ill health and died on April 3, 1884, in Udine.
