Saint Timothy, an early Christian evangelist and Bishop of Ephesus, joined St. Paul around 51AD and became his close friend and confidant. St. Paul called him a “dearly beloved son, brother, companion in labor and man of God”. He even encouraged him “to use a little wine for thy stomach sake”. Paul wrote two letters to Timothy, one from Macedonia in 65AD, and the second while in prison in Rome. Timothy died, being stoned to death while trying to stop a pagan festival to the goddess Diana. St. Timothy’s name means “honoring God”.
