Saint Matilda was the daughter of royalty, raised by her grandmother in a convent and married Henry the Fowler, who eventually became king. She was known for her charitable works and piety. They had 3 children, Henry, Otto, and St. Bruno. Henry and Otto bickered against each other about secession to the throne. Otto eventually became Holy Roman Emperor. St. Matilda built convents and monasteries during her life. She gave up her inheritance to her bickering sons and retired to a convent to spend the rest of her life.
