St. Gerard Majella was a professed lay brother of the Redemptorists; he served as tailor and infirmarian and became known for his extraordinary supernatural gifts of bilocation, prophecy, ecstasies,  and visions. Though not a priest, his spiritual direction and advice were sought by many among the clergy and communities of nuns.  St. Gerard is often invoked as the patron of expectant mothers as a result of a miracle effected through his prayers for a woman in labor.
