Saint Manuel González Garcia, known as the "Bishop of the Abandoned Tabernacles” and “Bishop of the Poor” was born in Seville, Spain. He became a priest in 1901 and was sent to Palomares del Rio where he saw a dilapidated church with poor attendance and Jesus abandoned in the Tabernacle, inspiring him to start “Union Eucaristica Reparadora” which promoted adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. His tireless work included founding schools, teaching catechesis and giving missions. He was appointed auxiliary bishop of Málagain in 1915 and bishop of Palencia in 1935. He died from a kidney disorder in 1940 and was buried at the main altar of the Cathedral of Palencia, fulfilling his wish to be buried at the foot of the Tabernacle.
